Community Services Trust Salem

Dedicated to Dr. Yvette Tiphagne M.D. (Paris)
Blossomed 10.05.1910   Bloomed 22.02.1999
aiming for community development and empowerment

Dr. Yvette Tiphagne came to India from France in 1937 to become the first female doctor in Salem as well as mother to six adopted Tamil children. Inspired by her life and work, Community Services Trust Salem was established as a secular NGO in 1990 to provide a better life to the neglected, abandoned, uncared for and deprived. CST has become mother and teacher to thousands of children and a ray of hope and strength to thousands of women. CST serves the tribal, rural and urban poor with a special focus on women and children. Most importantly, CST emphasizes an approach of self-development and sustainability, so that the people of the community can take control of their own lives, families and neighborhoods. CST's vision is to help create an egalitarian society free from all social evils, prejudices and taboos.

For over a decade, the socially committed people of CST have been promoting various human development projects to combat India's specific social problems such as female infanticide, oppression of women, child labor, lack of health care and persecution of the scheduled castes and tribes.

Child Enrollment Program (CEP)
In 2002, CST will be focusing on child development. Our new program aims to enroll at least 1000 children of the Salem and Namakkal districts in government schools and stop the destructive circle of child labor, ignorance, and illiteracy in the community. For more information, see the project description.

CST is looking for donor agencies or partner NGOs for sponsorship to allow them to continue as a strong and sustainable NGO able to withstand all difficulties in the future.
