CST's Project Strategy
child development, womens empowerment, health improvement

Since 1990, CST has been providing the poor rural and urban people of the Salem and Namakkal communities with enlightenment, guidance and strength to make their lives and their environment better. Through the years, CST has remained faithful in its dedication to community empowerment and development, by protecting human rights and teaching and implementing social, economic, health and environmental improvement strategies. To acheive its goals, CST has built a project strategy in which most of its activities are centered on child development, womens empowerment and health improvement. Their other activities focus on social and economic development and environmental protection.

Success in Womens Empowerment and Health Care!
CST's proudest accomplishment to date is their newest and largest program, Mahalir Thittam. This program has solidified an expansive network of 1750 dedicated women's Self-Help Groups in the surrounding Salem and Namakkal areas through which other community health care and village improvement projects are being carried out. The most successful of these has been the DANIDA funded Community Health Action Project.

Child Enrollment Program (CEP)
After great success in the fields of women's empowerment and health improvement, in 2002 CST will be focusing on child development. The plans are to initiate a program to enroll at least 1000 children of the Salem and Namakkal in government schools and stop the destructive circle of child labor, ignorance, and illiteracy in the community. For more information, see the project description.

Below you will find detailed descriptions, organized by catagory, of each of CST's projects and the results and restraints they have faced over the past year.
