Organic Farming: AGROFEM (OF)
Project Budget
It has proved difficult to convince the farmers to adopt organic farming methods - their financial needs are the biggest constraint. As aide to the farmers, the government supplies subsidized chemical pesticides, which makes it doubly difficult for the farmers attitude towards organic practices to change. Especially when the switch may mean a loss of the first few crops during the unstable change period. Support in supply of seeds and manure and in the construction of vermi compost tanks is needed. As well, to continue the project and bring about a really effective change, sponsorship is needed to support the coordination, monitoring and educational staff. Once the organic practices are adopted in the area, an environmentally sustainable and healthier lifestyle will become a reality for the people.
